Passion Pit – The Olympia
March 18th, 2010 by Ian received No Comments »Although Passion Pit are not so much a famous band, they have developed quite a cult following, filling a tent at Oxegen and selling out tonight. Debut album “Manners” is a finely-crafted slice of electronic bliss. The band opened with a track from their “Chunk Of Change” EP, “I’ve Got Your Number”
All tracks from this EP seem to have gotten a live re-working, and they sound better live than they ever did on record. From the beginning, the crowd gave them everything, and the band knew. Singer Michael Angelakos stopped every now and then for a chat, telling us how the Irish were the best crowds, chatting about the rugby win, and the drummer, Nate Donmoyer, even came out in an Irish rugby jersey for the encore
Michael’s voice was flawless throughout, and the crowd sang back every word. The biggest sing-alongs ensued during “Moth’s Wings” and “The Reeling”, where we were left to sing the chorus. We were happy to listen to them all night, but all good things must come to an end. The band came back for an encore, covering The Cranberries classic “Dreams”. You might think this is a strange combination, and it is, but it worked perfectly. This was by FAR the loudest sing-along of the night, the 20-something crowd recalling days of teenage angst, bad haircuts and Trips To Tipp
The sound was deafening.
You’ll be glad to know that Passion Pit are releasing Dreams on the Deluxe Edition of Manners, due out in April
